On 18 December 2018, on the occasion of the International Migrant Day, the winners’ ceremony of the 3rd edition of the National Children's Drawing Competition "Migration through the eyes of children" took place at the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection (MSMPS). In partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), participation diplomas and awards were offered to the 14 winners of the most ingenious and original drawings on migration topic.

Held from 1 November to 30 November 2018, this contest was open to children aged between 7 and 18 from schools and high schools from all over the country on both banks of the Dniester. More than 600 drawings from all over Moldova were sended. Based on the theme of migration and the originality, the creativity, the aesthetic aspect of the works, the selection committee (MSMPS, IOM, UNDP), chose the drawings in the 3 categories of the competition.

By elaborating drawing with techniques or materials of their choice (plain / colored pencil, watercolors, gouache, collage, graphic techniques, etc.), children exteriorize their emotions. Regarding the organizers, it permits to uncover the way the children perceive the phenomenon of migration and to ensure communication between children with their parents abroad and authorities in order to identify their needs and new models of public policy intervention. The most innovative ideas presented will serve to identify measures to mitigate the negative effects of the migration phenomenon in the context where, according to the estimates of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, more than 77 thousand children were left behind by at least one migrant parent, out of which about 17 thousand children had both parents abroad and 60 thousand children – one parent who went abroad.
