More than 300 people took part in the questionnaire on migration and diaspora mapping at the European Village 2017
Chisinau – On 13 May 2017, the International Organization for Migration, Mission in Moldova in partnership with the Diaspora Relations Bureau, participated in the European Village 2017. Both organizations presented their activities in the field of migration to the public of the fair.
One such activity was the quiz on migration. It checked the visitors’ basic knowledge on migration: the most popular countries of destination for Moldovan emigrants, who makes the diaspora of the Republic of Moldova and the number of victims who suffered from trafficking in persons in 2016 in Moldova. The data used in the questionnaire was taken from the numerous studies conducted by IOM and its experts, supported by the European Union, including the Extended Migration Profile of the Republic of Moldova. Each participant was awarded with small prizes from pens on USB flash drives.
The organizations conducted the real-time diaspora mapping – the exercise, which became the IOM Moldova visiting card. The visitors of the European Village were invited to mark on the map of Europe the city and the country where their Moldovan relatives and friends are based. They participants of the mapping were also invited to send to their loved ones abroad a postcard from the Diaspora Bureau.
The general objective of the fair – to inform the public about the IOM activities funded by the European Union, namely the activities under the project on supporting the implementation of the migration and development component of the Mobility Partnership has been achieved. More than 300 people participated in the questionnaire and mapping, more than 500 Extensive Migration Profiles were taken by the general public.
